Message from Bob and Chris Douglas
In
1796, Mary Ann Lodge (daughter of Robert? or William? and Mary) was born in
Fowlmere.
On July 19,
1814, she married Joseph Douglas(b. 1795), resident of Foxton,
in Fowlmere Parish Church. Their first child, Mary Ann Douglas, was born in
Fowlmere in about 1816, being baptised in
the Fowlmere Church on 15 March
1816.
Brothers William and John were also born in Fowlmere, in 1818 & 1821.
The family probably moved back to Foxton in about1822, where sons Thomas and
James were born
in 1823 & 1826 respectivley.
On 25 december 1847, in Hinxton Parish Church, Thomas Douglas married Phoebe
Wisby
(daughter of Thoams Wisby) of Duxford.
Two years later, again on Christmas Day, James, brother of Thomas, married Eliza
Wisby,
daughter of Richard, in Duxford Parish Church.
Apparently some great schism rent the family and Thomas Douglas and Phoebe,
now with three sons William (b. 22 January 1848), Frederick (b. 1850) and Alfred
(b.1852) sailed for the Swan River Colony (Western Australia) in about March
1852.
Joseph Douglas and Mary Ann Lodge were my great-great-great grandparents.
I am searching for any information concerning their other children's offspring,
so that we can add their details to the 1270 or so persons we have in our great
family tree which we have built over the last 20 years in Western Australia.
We woild love to hear from anyone who has information - and even more from distant
relations - in the Fowlmere/Foxton/Hinxton/Duxford/Ickleton areas.

Message from Marek Adamczyk
My name is Marek Adamczyk:- some may know me as Mark. I lived in Fowlmere for
18 years, a while back. I live in Florida now (past 16 years). I spent two
years at the Fowlmere Primary school at age of 5-6. Then I schooled at St.
Andrews (next to Caltholic Church, Cambridge): then Grammmar School (now
Netherhall, Cambridge): then UEA (still. UEA, Norwich).
I played soccer (football) for FFC when I was a teenager.
I visited all the pubs: QH, Swan, Checkers, Black Horse.
I miss
Fowlmere very much!.
Please pass on my regards and well wishes to: Phylis Aldous, "Tosh",

Steven & "Guy" Gladwell, Mervin Waldock, John Barrett, George
Taylor, Alf
(RIP) and Lindsell Tanner, "Topper" Day, and Geoff Dayous (spelling?).,
and
to anyone else that may know my name.
A remark about Geoff Dayous (spelling ?- its been a long time): Geoff yelled
at me when I sprained my ankle playing soccer (football) - "Don't let them
know you are hurt!" I played on- hurting! In life since I've hurt, but
I've
still had to play. Thankyou Geoff! I hated you then, but I respect you now.
All these folks helped shape my life (good and bad). The family's of these
folks: some looked out for my mother while she was living at 7, Pipers Close.
My brother still lives in the area. He goes by the name of Maz. This may mean
something to many folks.
I am indebted to them ( I know, and they know who they are)..
I will be back!
Thankyou, God Bless!

I've been
back to visit Fowlmere only once. It was wonderful to see all of
these old places filled with memories from my childhood.
Are there any photos of what used to be called the Watercress Beds? We
spent many a Sunday walking out there with our parents. When I was back
it had been turned into a bird reserve.
We lived in a house
on Long Lane down the road from the Swan and the
Queenshead. We called the house Lantern House.
For reference,
I lived in Fowlmere from 1969-1976 and my maiden name is Cooper.
We moved to the United States in 1976 and I now live in Seattle.
Thanks for doing such a great job on the web-site.
My family and I spoke of it last time we were together, and we all enjoyed it
very much.
Thanks for the walk down memory lane!
