Traffic concerns raised over ‘huge’ agricultural event in Chrishall

Residents are “up in arms” after plans have been announced for more than 25,000 people to descend on a village for a two-day agriculture event.

County Cllr Peter Topping says residents are concerned cars and landrovers will cause grid lock traffic around the site at Chrishall Grange, near Duxford.

The Cereals Event is a technical event for the UK arable industry with hundreds of stands and live demonstrations.

Local man save the Hedgehogs

A man who has delivered hay and straw to Shepreth Wildlife Park for 10 years has pledged to donate £800 to help poorly hedgehogs.

Tony Deans, from Fowlmere, contacted staff to offer their conservation charity a generous £100 a month up until Christmas.

He said: “I often visit the park and the staff are always friendly, I love animals and like to help the community where I can.”

Uber FAST Broadband for Cambridgeshire

Good news! Cambridgeshire County Council has today signed the contract with BT that means our businesses and communities will have some of the best fibre broadband coverage in the country by the end of 2015.

The next step is to undertake detailed planning work with BT to draw up the roll-out plans. Once we’ve worked this through we will be able to publicise more details.

Fowlmerian makes it into New Years Honour List

A senior civil servant from Cambridgeshire is honoured for services to improving Government science. Miles Parker, 64, who lives at Fowlmere, is deputy chief scientific adviser at the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs. Married with two children and two stepchildren, he is made an OBE in recognition of his work overseeing Defra’s spending on scientific research. He said: “The award is recognition of my phenomenal team, and also the importance of science issues.”
